Can your customers find you online?

A website that search engines are not aware of will never bring you business.  You wouldn't open a shop on the high street and then hide the door...this is effectively what you are doing if the search engines are not aware of your website.

Website optimisation allows the search engines to list your site and for your site to move its way up the search engine results.  There are many ways to move your site up the listings and the best way is to start with on page optimisation – making sure there is the right balance between how your site looks for your audience and how the search engines rate it.

The jargon around optimising you website can be confusing but in basic terms you need to match up the words that people would use to search for your products with the content of your site.

First website? or is yours in need of attention? Make an informed decision

With so many web companies to select from building your first site or even refreshing your current site can be daunting.   We would of course like to help you with your new project but think you should know the right questions to ask so you can make an informed decision when selecting an agency to work with.

At a minimum ask the following...and of course any others you might like to add!

  • Can you see examples of work
  • How will the design process work – are you expected to supply full content and images?
  • What software will be used? if it is templated it maybe a low cost option initially but you may be tied to one developer or company in the future and not be able to develop your website as your business grows.
  • Do they offer hosting and email?
  • Where will the site be hosted - and can you have a copy of the site to keep locally.
  • Will your site be backed up? and what is the support procedure?  This is the online face of your business you do not want the site to be unavailable for any reason and if it is you need to know who to contact.
  • Can the site be developed in the future? you dont want to pay for a site that has restrictions on functionality you might need in the future.
  • Is website search engine friendly - this doesnt mean it is optimised but set to industry standards so it is easily listed by the search engines.

Any reputable designer should be happy to answer any of your questions and concerns.
